Date Description File
13-05-2010 This song was recorded on April 26 in one take on a stereo track. After that it was uploaded to the demo section. Today I did some post processing using the UAD plug-ins Pultec, 1176SE and RealVerb Pro and uploaded it here because I think it is a good song.
The song consists of only 2 sequences and strings. The 2 sequences are driven by Nodal. You can download the Nodal file here. The bass sequence is performed by the Creamware MiniMax ASB and the faster sequence by the Clavia Nord Lead 1. The Mellotron strings are played manually on the Roland XP-80.
I guess the title and the mood of the song speaks for itself.

20-03-2010 This afternoon I was experimenting with Ableton Live and just entered a random 8 step sequence played by the FabFilter Twin 2 VST synth. After performing some alterations I liked the sequence and further added some variations and tracks.  There are 5 tracks; 2 MIDI tracks with sequences performed by the FabFilter Twin 2 VST Synth, a MIDI track playing an 'Ambient-Bells and Formants' instrument from Live, a track with samples of Chinese 'Da Tang Gu' drums and a track with samples of a singing Chinese female. 05-07-2009 This song is based on the music from the video 'A changing theme' and the title refers to the 3 different sequences used on the Doepfer MAQ16/3 which gives more variety to the track. So the title has got nothing to do with Obama's campaign slogan. Each of the 3 sequences drives 3 synthesizers:
- Synthesizers.com Modular which does a bass type sequence (1st sequence you hear)
- Self-built Modular which uses the Q107 band pass and low pass filter (2nd sequence you hear)
- Creamware MiniMax ASB (3rd sequence you hear)
The DotCom sequence in the 2nd part is doubled with a low sine wave from the Q106 VCO to give the sequence more body: a tip I read in the discussion about 'Moog Bass Power' on the DotCom forum. The strings are performed on the Waldorf Q Keyboard which I programmed to simulate the string sound from my previously owned AKAI AX80. The solo's are performed on the Korg 900PS and the Clavia Nord Lead 1.

This music was entered in April to be part of the DotCom Collective CD but this CD is not released yet. The result of the song you can download here is somewhat different than the one entered for the DotCom CD because the UAD Precision Enhancer kHz plug-in was used on the master mix to do it's magic and the string part uses the UAD BOSS CE-1 plug-in.

29-04-2009 This song is based on the music from the video 'Theme for Wieb Klaver' and I tried to keep it just as simple as in that video. Like the video this song is dedicated to Wieb Klaver. Theme for Wieb Klaver

20-03-2009 This song is based on the music of the video 'A theme for my Muse'. The keywords for the mood of this song are modest, subtle and most of all sweet. The song contains only 12 audio tracks and maybe you can hear that the UAD-1 is used with the plug-ins 1176SE Limiting Amplifier and RealVerb Pro on the master output and the plug-ins Nigel Phasor for 2 sequences and DM-1L delay on only 2 sequences because of UAD-1 memory limits for long delays.
It all begins with 2 sequences from the Synthesizers.com Modular and the self built Modular (MFM). Short-after the sequence from the Creamware MiniMax ASB joins. Then the bass sequence from the Synthesizers.com Modular, the strings from the AKAI AX80 and a MHH choir sample from the E-MU ESI-2000 completes the accompaniment for the first section. The solo from the Clavia Nord Lead 1 is telling its story, full of questions. When the story finishes, addition sequences are started, 1 octave higher than the current sequences, and the MHH choir sample is replaced with an OHH choir sample. The Korg 900PS tells its story, trying to answer. After the Korg has retreated the setting is lowered, the OHH choir samples are replaced with MHH choir samples again but the solo from the Clavia Nord Lead 1 is still full of questions.
I dedicate this song to my Muse.

01-03-2009 This song is based on the music of the video 'A symphonic theme'.
The song has 32 audio tracks mainly with sequences from the Synthesizers.com Modular, the self built Modular (MFM) and the Creamware MiniMax ASB, bass and string sounds from the AKAI AX80, Mellotron choir and string samples from the E-MU ESI-2000 and solo voices and brass type accompaniments from the Clavia Nord Lead 1. Also short contributions from the Kawai K5000R and the Korg 900PS. All sequences are done with the Doepfer MAQ16/3.
The title of the song refers to the confusion of feelings.

24-01-2009 This song is based on the music of the video 'A simple theme close-up'.
The song has 18 audio tracks featuring the Synthesizers.com Modular doing a sequence, a solo and the glide voices on 4 tracks, the MFM doing sequences on 2 tracks, the Creamware MiniMax ASB on 7 tracks doing the bass, organ type sound, string solo, noise drum, sequences and a solo, the Nord Lead 1 on 4 tracks doing a sequence, solo's, strings and the intro. The Korg 900PS is responsible for the organ type solo voice on 1 track. All sequences are done with the Doepfer MAQ16/3.
The title of the song refers to the different point of views in the periodic performance discussions at my company. But it all turned out satisfactory for me.

06-01-2009 This song is based on the music of the video 'Yet, another simpler theme' and the demo 'Idea_24-12-2008' in the demo music section.
The song has 18 audio tracks featuring the Synthesizers.com Modular doing sequences, arpeggiators and the bass on 4 tracks, the MFM doing simple sequences on 2 tracks, the AKAI AX80 on 4 tracks doing the some brassy sounds and the piano (Preset 1) at the beginning, the Nord Lead 1 on 3 tracks doing the bell sounds and the horn-like sound in the second part, Mellotron string samples on the E-MU ESI2000 and a flute sample at the end, and the Korg 900PS is responsible for the solo voices on 3 tracks. Some sequences are done with the Doepfer MAQ16/3. I had to key in some MIDI for the sequences in the song to control the Modulars instead of using the Doepfer MAQ16/3 because of the chord changes. Also first I thought I was going to fade out the music at the climax at about 8 minutes but I liked the somewhat unconventional ending which you can hear in the last one and a half minutes; I hope you do to.
The song is called Passion but is really about unfulfilled desires.

30-11-2008 A short song to express some anger I had the last couple of days about a mail conversation at work. The leads and the bass are done with the Nord Lead 1 on 4 tracks, the accompaniment by the AKAI AX80 on 4 tracks and the detuned drum sounds by the ZOOM RT-323 on 1 track. Misinterpreted

25-11-2008 I thought it was time to do some recording again because the last one was 4 months ago. This song is based on the music from the video 'An even simpler theme; reprise'. The song has 24 audio tracks featuring the Synthesizers.com Modular doing sequences on 6 tracks, the MFM doing sequences on 3 tracks and drum sounds on 2 two tracks, the Kawai K5000R on 5 tracks doing the leads, phaser strings and fill-ins, the AKAI AX80 on 3 tracks doing the strings and the bass, the Nord Lead 1 on 2 tracks doing a female voice imitation and a gliding lead in the middle section, and the Creamware MiniMax on 3 tracks doing the glide voices just before the middle section. The sequences are all done with the Doepfer MAQ16/3.
I dedicate this song to My Home Town.

08-07-2008 I liked the improvisation I had put on YouTube so I decided to record it as long as the Modular was still patched with the sound. Had to do some reverse engineering on chords and stuff but I think I get it right. Did not use the Nord Lead this time but only the Synthesizers.com (starting sequence), the Creamware MiniMax ASB (Bass and sequence), the AKAI AX80 (chords), the Kawai 100F (solo's and EFX) and the Doepfer MAQ16/3. The title just came up when I had to give the song a name so it has no special meaning. Flavour

06-05-2008 A week ago I recorded the basis of this song which consists of 4 tracks which you hear at the beginning and the end. And I could not think of suitable additional tracks to bring some variation in the middle section. But last Sunday some appropriate tracks were added and now it sounds OK. The song contains 10 audio tracks: 8 Synthesizers.com Modular and 2 self made Modular (bass and accompaniment) tracks. The title refers to some damage made to my car after returning the car the lease company. And now the lease company holds me responsible. Damage

30-04-2008 This song starts and ends somewhat dark. But apart from that it's quiet cheerful. The melody is something that settles in your head (at least in mine), so beware. The song contains 23 audio tracks: 11 Synthesizers.com Modular (bass, sequences, ring modulator effects, noise), 5 self made Modular (sequences, arpeggio, noise), 3 Kawai 100F (solo's), 3 Nord Lead 1 (chords, solo's) and 1 ZOOM RT-323 (drums) track. The title refers to the products of a company where I am doing some work at the moment. Tiles

23-03-2008 Something trivial for this Easter. This song is made in two evenings. The basis are the 4 sequencer tracks with the Modular. The drumkit (bass, snare, hi-hat) is made up of 3 tracks of percussive sounds also with the Modular. Add 6 tracks with the Akai AX-80 for accompaniment and 1 track for the solo with the Nord Lead 1. This adds up to 14 audio tracks for this song. It turned out to sound a little bit Techno to me (but I don't know all the names for the various contemporary styles). Easter Egg

17-03-2008 This piece was originally composed in April/May of 2005 using MIDI. I converted the MIDI tracks to audio and altered and added some tracks. The song contains 18 audio tracks: 1 Modular (bass), 5 Nord Lead 1 (2nd voice leads, bass and accompaniment), 9 Creamware MiniMax ASB (lead, bass and accompaniment), 2 E-MU ESI-2000 (Mellotron samples) and 1 Kawai K5000R (flageolet-like sound) tracks. The title refers to Apache Tomcat software which I was struggling with at that time. Tomcat

27-02-2008 A short song done only with the Modular using the Synthesizers.com Q107 State Variable Filter. All 10 audio tracks are played by hand; no sequencing is involved. The title refers to the tempo signature which is kind of strange. Asynchronous

10-02-2008 The magnificent sequence on the track '1992' by Steve Roach on the Sequences magazine 10th anniversary CD (No 27) inspired me for this song. But the song developed sounding very different. The song contains 21 audio tracks: 5 Modular (sequences and noise drum), 1 Creamware MiniMax ASB (sequence), 2 Nord Lead 1 (bass pedals and strings), 2 Akai AX80 (some melody and strings), 6 Kawai 100F (melodies) and 5 E-MU ESI-2000 (classical choir and Mellotron samples for the melody) tracks. Sequences driving the Modular and MiniMax are all generated by the Doepfer MAQ16/3 which is MIDI synchronized from Pro Tools LE. Because Steve Roach named his song '1992', I thought '2008' would be a good title. 2008

02-11-2007 This song with the Modular is more powerful than the previous one's because it contains drums. The song contains 16 audio tracks: 4 Modular, 7 Nord Lead 1, 1 Akai AX80, 2 Korg 900PS and 2 ZOOM RT-323 tracks. Sequences driving the Modular are all generated by the Doepfer MAQ16/3 which is MIDI synchronized from Pro Tools LE. The title refers to the various moods in the music, from very sweet to aggresive. 22-10-2007 The second song with the Modular in Pro Tools LE took a little bit longer. The song contains 14 audio tracks: 9 Modular, 3 Nord Lead 1 and 2 Akai AX80 tracks. It took a while before the middle section was filled to my liking. Sequences are all generated by the Doepfer MAQ16/3 which is MIDI synchronized from Pro Tools LE. And the MAQ16/3 controls the Modular. Autumn

30-09-2007 Made my first song with the Modular in Pro Tools LE yesterday evening. The song contains 10 audio tracks Modular and 1 audio track Creamware MiniMax ASB (bass sequence). The basis is made on the first two tracks with the sequences which are driven by the Doepfer MAQ16/3. The other tracks are recorded one by one afterwards. There was no composition when I started recording but it all came together very nice in the end. Today I did the mixing. First Moves

22-08-2004 One of the last songs in my MIDI-based period. The category of the music is progressive rock (I think ..). This one is special because the drumming is done by Guus Waalwijk on a Yamaha MIDI drumkit. I know Guus because he was a member of the symphonic rock band Tidal Wave. I also played in that band from around 1977 to 1981. Rumbold
